I recently saw “Paris, je t'aime”, a collection of short films that tries to validate the myth that Paris is the love capital of the world. I chose myth because I can't recall of a research paper that supports that belief. Furthermore, affection isn't what I felt during my first meeting with some young French people who were on a missionary work.
I wasn't looking for love when I met them, but I wasn't assured of friendship after a dinner and chat. They weren't the kind who opens up to anyone right away.
On my second meeting, I learned that one of them grew up near the French Alps. She was different from the others who spent most of their lives in Paris. It was hard not to like her because she was down to earth and she loves to spend time with kids.
We became good friends by the time she returned to France. I felt like she was my BFF even if she's an ocean away. I know generalizations are wrong, but I can't help but think that maybe that's how the French are - they'll be your friend for life once you win their trust. I believe there's a research paper that agrees with me.
